On again Off again...Life 8/30/2006 6:29:49 PM Met with my sister tonight, she's a divorced woman legally now and she finally has a chance at normalcy and freedom from a life of abuse. I have 4 sisters, 3 of which I see less often than I'd like. Tonight I actually talked on the phone and visited my sister 'S' in person. It is honestly the first time we've visited just the two of us in ages.
'S' has been involved in an abusive marriage for 15 years. Her very recent ex is a well known guy in a politically powerful social position, and otherwise a complete ass. He isn't the kind of abuser that hits with his fist, but the one that likes to use crushing verbal and emotional tools to manipulate and dominate the ones he loves. He comes from a family that feels it's their duty to sweep the bad things like sexual abuse under the rug and use words like 'allegedly happened' when referring to the ugly memory.
'S' has been verbally abused since the get-go. Her ex is a worldclass liar and psycho threat. He will do anything and say anything to get his way. He has even gone to lengths that have compromised our local legal system. He had (and still is in) an affair, and what is worse than all I've mentioned so far, is the fact that he has lied and deceived his own children. His beloved girls will some day be old enough to comprehend that he betrayed them when they needed him most, and like the coward that he is, he denied their very words and chose to protect his own reputation rather than help them overcome the emotional and traumatic events that have ripped the innocence from their lives.
With the huge emotionally draining experience 'S' has been through this past week, I never expected to see the determined and passionate part of her personality surface. She has gone to court, been awarded custody, spousal support, child support, and her very sole. She has completed 2 significant financial transactions on her own, has planned a move, and is fiercly protecting her fragile little family, determined to show her children strength, love, and hope for a better life.
'S' has an interview tomorrow and I ask that anyone who reads this send a prayer her way. She deserves the best.
