Absolute Write shut down by J.C. Hosting ISP 5/26/2006 5:47:03 AM On May 24, 2006 AbsoluteWrite.com was given only one hour of notice before being shut down by its ISP, J.C. Hosting. The reason for the shutdown, according to AW sources, is that literary agent Barbara Bauer threatened to sue JC Hosting unless it shut down Absolute Write, on account of the fact that it posted her email address. It seems odd, considering that she is a literary agent and her email address obviously must be accessible to the public. How else would potential clients be able to contact her? Ms Bauer has also objected to the fact that she is on AWs list of the twenty worst agents. Absolute Write has done invaluable service to the writing community by publishing this list and warning authors away from scam publishers and agents. The site owner, Jenna Glatzer has published a book called "The Street Smart Writer," which also shows us, based on her own experience, how to recognize and stay away from literary scams. It is hoped the Absolute Write will be up soon at another location. It would be a tragedy if it was buried because of the threats of one disgruntled agent.
