New Book 5/17/2007 12:40:56 AM Ok, so the first book fell through, at least until later, but I'm back on the book writing bandwagon. This one is more of a historical fiction peice, probably emphasis on the fiction more than the history. Its set during the reconstruction after the civil war in America, and there have been some key changes to history. Lamon, Lincoln's personal bodyguard, actually went with him to the Ford theater, so Lincon is still alive. The Klan fought in the war on the confederate side in their own regiments, nicknamed Ghouls for their violent querilla fighting. Klan violence has also escalated exponentially, especially during reconstruction, and spread into the North. The klan has progressed from their normal intimidation style of lynching an occasional black man and trying to scare people, to what they call Black/Abby hunts, where ex-slaves, abolitionists, and their families are hunted down and murdered by Klan members.
The book centers around a union officer and a group of "Lost," the nickname used to reffer to groups of the children of murdered ex-slaves and abolitionists who wander around the country trying to stay alive. More specifically, it focuses on one specific event in the officer's life, where he sees most of one of these groups of wandering children murdered by a group of Ghouls, and its after effects on him, and the handful of survivors from the group.
