Egads! It's been too long... 7/20/2008 12:03:40 PM I've really fallen behind here! I won't even attempt to catch up with all that has gone on since 2004 because quite frankly, if you have missed it, I don't want to be the bearer of bad tidings...
Late last year I decided it was time to publish a big collection of (a sort of Best O' the Raindog - if you will) poetry, my first ever. I put the manuscript together and it ran close to 400 pages! A bit much for a first timer, so I decided to break it into two volumes. Volume 1 came out in March. It had 184 poems in its 158 pages. Volume 2 will have 132 poems in 154 pages (I changed the style a little bit).
Volume 1 of Fire and Rain - Selected Poems 1993-2007 was printed by Lulu.com and I was pretty happy with the job they did. That is, until I tried to use my own ISBN (I have a block of numbers I bought back in 1999) and discovered that Lulu wouldn't be as helpful as they had been touted to me originally.
That's when I switched to CreateSpace.com, a subsidiary of BookSurge (Amazon's POD company). Not only does CreateSpace let me use my own ISBNs but they also list my books with Amazon's database for free!
So my second book, On/Off the Beaten Path - the road poems, was printed by Create Space. It came out in June of 2008 and it contains 3 long poems in 114 pages. The three poems are: A Journey up the Coast (detailing a trip up to San Francisco in 1999 where I met a number of poets including A.D. Winans and Will Taylor, Jr.), On/Off the Beaten Path (which was about a trip to New Mexico in 2000 to meet Todd Moore), and finally, RoadKill, a monstrous poem of over 15,000 words about a trip I took in Sept of 2001 which was interrupted by the tragedy of 9-11.
I was very pleased with the quality of the second book and, unless I come across an even better deal from some other POD company, I plan on publishing other books with this company. Eventually, I'll reprint Fire and Rain #1 with this company as well.
But wait, there's more!
In August, I'm planning on publishing yet another book in what is rapidly becoming the Essential RD Armstrong Reading Series. This time it'll be my first collection of short stories: El Pagano and Other Twisted Tales. These stories are not for the faint of heart either, they're the real deal
OK that's about it for now. I'll try not to be so lazy about this blogging stuff.
