Typo King

When it comes to typos I am the king. Or, as my wife says, “You are the king of missing words.” I admit it. I really, really, suck when it comes to copy editing. Story editing, I’m pretty good at, but it’s all those on(e)s, on(f)s, double thes, these, this, theres, theyres, theirs, that get me every time.
There are several reasons why most of my typos appear in my blogs, articles and free short stories that I put up on the web.
The first reason is that I am a horrible speller. Although Microsoft Word does help me a lot on this and I’ve gotten a little better after editing a 100,000 word novel, spelling is not my strong point.
The second reason for my typos is that my mind moves faster than I can type. I like to skip all those little words that I don’t think are important (even if the sentence makes no sense because of it). This is my biggest sin. The worst part about it is when I read over what I wrote my brain fills in all those missing words for me (probably something to do with my superior intelligence) so I think they’re actually there.
The third reason is that a lot of typos occur while I’m revising my work. I revise a lot because I’m always coming up with cool new stuff that I think I have to add. So when I start moving sentences around and cutting and copying I tend to screw stuff up.
And the last reason for my typos is that for all my stuff, like blogs, articles and short stories that I post on the web for free, I don’t have an editor. I know it’s important that my free stuff is error free because I don’t want people to think that my books are full of typos. The simple truth is I can’t afford to pay an editor for all the stuff I put on the web, and I DO pay for an editor to edit my books.
So I’m thinking that all you guys out there can be my copyeditors for me. Whenever you find something that ‘just don’t make no sense’, simply send me a message that says ‘Hey, Cory, I found a typo.’ And I’ll fix it. Maybe I’ll start a rewards program or something where people can win free books…hmmm.
