Live Free or Die

Death is not the worst of evils.
There comes a time in everyoneís life when one has to stand up and say enough is enough. Well, I guess I've reached that point in time. I can no longer stand by and watch as our liberties and values are ground into the dirt.

The following poem is actually a political statement. Once you've read it you'll understand what I mean. It not only applies to the State of New Hampshire but to the very heart of our federal government too.

I am a published author but am not applying for a copyright for this one. This is for the people. I am sending this to every paper in New Hampshire as well as the Boston papers and to the Associated Press also. It is being e-mailed to every Presidential candidate and many of our top Senators and Congressman throughout the entire country.
This is supposed to be a government of, for and by the people. That is our God given Constitutional right as American citizens. Itís time to stand up and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Itís time to give America back to the people who made it great. You, me and mine! The everyday, 40 hour a week working stiff. Maybe thatís what we need in the White House too. Just an everyday person that knows what itís like to have to scratch for every penny to pay their bills every month, to put food on the table and to buy gas. Someone that cares enough about innocent children in our country who are starving, who cares enough to get the homeless off the street, who cares about our troops who are dying everyday in Iraq and for our troops coming back to poverty and broken homes and some with mental problems because of what theyĎve been through. What has happened to this country folks? We happened, thatís what. We've been silent for too long. When things happened that we didn't like, we forget to ask our legislators why?

Do you follow the news? Hereís an example of how our leaders watch out for the best interest of itís people. What are you paying for gas? $3.00, $3.25 or maybe even $4.00 a gallon? Many countries pay more than we do but many pay less too. The following is direct from CNN as of today.
Taiwan Taipei $2.84
Lebanon Beirut $2.63
South Africa Johannesburg $2.62
Nicaragua Managua $2.61
Panama Panama City $2.19
Russia Moscow $2.10
Puerto Rico San Juan $1.74
Saudi Arabia Riyadh $0.91
Kuwait Kuwait City $0.78
Egypt Cairo $0.65
Nigeria Lagos $0.38
Venezuela Caracas $0.12
Venezuela is the government owned Citgo brand that we see and on almost every block throughout the USA by the way. Can you see what's happening? Because we are the only super power left in the world today we are being squeezed dry by the greedy oil barons and money hungry oil companies. They know we will pay and that's why our prices are as high as they are. Almost every other democratic nation in the world is in the same boat we are. Do you think maybe there's a conspiracy going on here?
The latest report that I could get my hands on as published in the Washington Post showed that ExxonMobil's third quarter profits soared nearly 75 percent to $9.92 billion, based on skyrocketing oil and natural-gas prices. Itís the largest quarterly profit in history for a U.S. company. And you thought Google was a hot stock. Shell third quarter profit grew 67 percent to $9.39 billion, riding on skyrocketing oil prices. BP profits climbed 34 percent for the same quarter. I am all for free enterprise but this is just plain gouging. And who's feeling it the most? The hardest working of the working class. But let the whole truth be known. Our government's mostly secret Colorado oil discovery.

About 1,000 feet beneath the surface of the Rocky Mountains is the largest untapped oil reserve in the world, more than 2 TRILLION barrels. On August 8, 2005 President Bush mandated its extraction. Three companies have been chosen to lead the way. Test drilling has already been started.

Approximately eighteen months ago, the U.S. Energy Department announced the results of a land survey. It was done to determine the official amount of oil a thousand feet deep in the Rocky Mountains.

They reported this unbelievable news. We have more oil inside our borders, than all the other proven reserves on earth.

Here are the official estimates:

8-times as much oil as Saudi Arabia
18-times as much oil as Iraq
21-times as much oil as Kuwait
22-times as much oil as Iran
500-times as much oil as Yemen

And itís all right here in the Western United States. James Bartis, head researcher for the study said, ďWe've got more oil in this very compact area than the entire Middle East combined.Ē

More than 2 TRILLION barrels. Untapped. ďThatís more than all the proven oil reserves of crude oil in the world today,Ē reported The Denver Post.

When asked about Americaís least-publicized oil supply, Utah Senator Orrin Hatch said:

ďThe amounts of oil are staggering. Who would have guessed that in just Colorado and Utah, there is more recoverable oil than in the Middle East?Ē

Now, here is the kicker. Our government owns the land. Itís been under their noses the whole time. Should the fact be known, our governmentís appointed a small group of companies to begin the drilling. Oil companies like Shell have already begun test drilling and the drilling was successful. So, why isn't this a major news story? Because they would rather we the people did not know. Do you really believe these oil companies want us to know about the vast amount of domestic oil under our own soil? No, crude prices would plummet and all their record profits would be lost. So guess who pays; we do.

The profit forecasts for this major find are ridiculous. According to the RAND Corporation (a public-policy think tank for the government), this small region can produce:

Three million barrels of oil per day That translates into more than $20 BILLION a year. This is a conservative estimate they say. The U.S. Energy Dept. estimates an eventual output of 10 million barrels of oil per day.

 Tell me why President Jimmy Carter was able to control the price of gasoline, heating oil, food and all other products as well as skyrocketing wages during the great gas crisis we had in the 1970's? This administration doesn't have that same power? Wrong! And that is the root of the problem. They don't want to control it. Those of you that know me well also know that I supported President Bush 100%, that I volunteered to serve in Iraq and even served with the TSA/DHS for awhile. Don't even talk to me about corruption within our government. I lived it first hand and paid dearly for trying to fight it then. What a fiasco that turned into. One day I'll right a book on that story alone.
You have dropped the ball Mr. Bush. Fat cats are getting even richer off of the regular Joeís sorrows and this administration is directly to blame. Control it Mr. President or hand it over to someone who has the guts enough to stand up and to do it for the sake of ALL the American people, not just your selected circle. But then, Mr. Bush is an oil man, right? I'll have to think about that one for awhile. DUH!

I have written this letter to tell you everything I have been able to learn about our Constitutional rights and this not very publicized oil reserve and whoís drilling it. We the people had better do something before itís too late. That something is to once again gain control over a rampantly uncontrolled government that has lost it's vision as to what America is all about. It has to start somewhere folks. Let's get the ball rolling and take control over what's happening right here in New Hampshire. We can move forward from here.

OK. Enough time spent on the soap box. Letís get back to what we must do. Why? Not for me. I'm going on 56 so I only have so many seasons ahead of me anyway. My concern is for my kids, your kids and their kids. If this state and this country keep going in the direction that they are going in; the only hope we have for our children is prayer. That should be an everyday thing anyway, but I'll save that topic for another time.

Anyway, (last statement, promise). This is our land and we have to demand it back. Mr. Politician; you will make only laws that are in the best interest of the majority. If this is too big a decision for you to handle, then you will let the people decide by our right to a popular vote. Period! You do not have a choice in this matter; it is commanded by our Constitution and by the rights we have earned with the spilled blood of all the men and women who fought and died for the past 231 plus years for our right to live free. The following says more if you think you can handle it.

Our state motto is quite unique,
The sweetest one I ever heard;
Well known throughout the USA,
Just four short but meaningful words.

That meaning is very simple too,
But I'll let you in on a secret;
It doesn't apply here anymore,
For our legislators just don't do it.

Such a great state this used to be,
By God, all our morals were set;
But the folks in our state capital,
Either they lie or they forget.

We are the ones who put them there,
And it is our will they must do;
This is not a request we're making,
Itís a command we're giving to you.

The words LIVE FREE OR DIE mean,
Death is not the worst of evils;
Worse then dying is living with,
Laws passed by demons and devils.

People of this great state of ours,
It is time for us to unite;
To get back the freedoms we've lost,
We need get together and fight.

The simple thing that is missing,
From those within our government;
Simple common sense is now gone,
And we'd like to know where it went.

At this point I'd like to take a moment,
To quote what Daniel Webster said;
About why the Old Man was put there,
Why we were blessed to see his head.

On to the tale that old Daniel told:

"Men hang out their signs indicative of their respective trades;
Shoemakers hang out a gigantic shoe;
Jewelers a monster watch,
And the dentist hangs out a gold tooth.
But in the mountains of New Hampshire,
God Almighty has hung out a sign to show,
That there He makes men."

The Old Man had his own reason,
For leaving us on that fateful day;
On May Third in Two Thousand & Three,
Our freedoms were being taken away.

So, He pleaded with God to come home,
For he couldn't bare to watch anymore;
As our morals were swept in the gutter,
On Live Free or Die they shut the door.

Most of our elected officials,
Right on up to our governor too;
Should hang their heads in shame,
Your constituents will you do not do.

Show me where God created man,
To make union with his own kind;
Now you want us to condone this?
You've really gone and lost your minds.

I understand that I'm not showing,
An ounce of political correctness;
I'm sorry, I seem to remember about,
Freedom of speech and using sense.

You can say that I'm old fashioned,
Yes, I still believe in right from wrong;
And I know this trail we're taking,
Will not make this state very strong.

Itís time to get back to the basics,
But I'm worried it might be too late;
Now that God has taken His sign down,
I dread whatís to come, I fear our fate.

The Old Man has been taken back home,
  But at least heís in a better place;
   This state is no longer GodĎs country,
    With our fellow man we have lost face.

The loss of the mountain's Old Man,
 Means God has sent us another sign;
 Though not the one we've been hoping for,
 Itís one of a very challenging time.

A sign that itís time to make changes,
Time to make our state strong again;
   Place our values back where they belong,
  Return to the faith we had back when.

You can say it was a small earthquake,
As Heís used those before in the past;
  But the fact remains, the Old Man is gone,
   And like the Man, our liberties wonĎt last.

Myself, I wouldn't blame Him at all,
  Should He take all of His blessings back;
   Our leaders have become a wicked lot,
     Don't lie to yourself, you know itís a fact.

Throughout the history of our state,
The Man stood for the right to be free;
But there are those in our government,
Who don't really care about you or me.

My neighbors and friends I've made my plea,
 But one man can't make changes alone;
  I'll shoulder the grief thatĎs sure to come,
   But I ask you to join me in saving our home.

That about sums it all up I heard;
The very heart of being a United States citizen,
Is summed up in those four little words.

Thank you and may God bless.
