We won a prize!

Battle of Flowers aftermath
All that work paid off in a glorious two days of fine weather and a parade of flowers.

We'd had rain all week, sometimes like someone had turned on the shower full power jet speed, but on Thursday, as it seems every year, the sky cleared and sun came out for Battle of Flowers.

My daughter had to be down at the parade for 9.00 a.m. as judging was 10 a.m. The show started at 14.00 and 29 floats took part. We had the circus, a yellow submarine, Hollywood, a farmyard, and a day at the seaside to name a few. Bands, majorettes, circus performers all interacted to give the audience an amazing time.

Friday night saw the Moonlight parade when all the floats were lit. Hogwarts castle (our Parish float) rose to the occasion and my daughter walked in front with a multi colour changing wand and flashing flights on her cape with the other witches. The float won first prize as best illuminated float!

Mr Battle was Christopher Biggins, who won the UK version of I'm a Celebrity down in the jungle. He wants to come back next year with a documentary crew he was so impressed, said it was one of the highlights of his career. Yeah, I know, they have to be nice about all the paid work they get, but he really seemed to be having a good time on the float waving and calling to people.

Sadly, the float now lies wilting in a field, the flowers falling off as they die. The haretail pieces will be thrown as there is nowhere to keep them. The Battle of Flowers museum is already busting with items. I'm hoping to keep little owl that was my pride and joy, just as a momento of the whole production.

My daughter had a wonderful time waving to everyone and was called several times from the crowd by people that knew her.

All worth it in the end.

Now I have time to get back to the main show in my life, writing. Just had the local newspaper on the phone to do an article about how to write a novel, taking my photo tomorrow.
