DENARD BLAKE vs. ? 12/14/2007 4:04:32 PM Hello world. I visited with a book club recently and, as usual when I visit book clubs, I had a GREAT time. By the way, it was the Ladies Literary Society in Detroit, MI. We ate well, had a few drinks, and engaged in lively discussion about both of my books. Since they were the first two in a series, these ladies didn't want to miss a beat, so they discussed BOTH books. Without boring you with ALL of the details of our discussion, I'll just say that they were highly complimentary of my debut and sophmore efforts.
I do want to discuss a decision that this astute group of women helped me make. You see, I was planning on writing a "stand alone" novel next. You know, getting away (for a moment) from the Denard Blake Series. These women were mildly outraged at the notion. They said that they like Denard Blake and are extremely anxious to see what happens next in his world. They'd grown attached to him and his cohorts in crime-fighting, a la Jason Williams, Terrence "Slickster" Kennedy, and the sultry and seductive Kathy London. Yep, these women helped me make up my mind. The comment that put me over the top was "When you've got something good, stick with it." You see, I wasn't convinced yet that it was good, but who am I to argue with these charming and intelligent readers.
With all of that being said, I was wondering if you all would like to share with me what characters in other writers' books have you grown attached to, and why. I'm HUGELY partial to the crime fiction/mystery/suspense novels. Let me know. Thanks.
Literally yours,
Michael C. Lee
