South to Alaska - A Small World
2/6/2008 7:37:39 PM
I had an enjoyable trip to the Seattle area a couple weeks ago when I held a slide presentation for my book, South to Alaska, at Village Books in Bellingham, Washington. The Bellingham area has a strong connection with my book in that my grandmother was raised in Bellingham and my mother spent a portion of her childhood there. Also, Bellingham was the point at which my mother joined my father on his boat, the Red Dog, and traveled with him along the Inside Passage to Alaska in 1973. Not only did I enjoy presenting my father’s story of his travels by boat from Arkansas to Alaska, relatives I had never met attended the presentation! A wonderful surprise, and a memory I will cherish.

Two days after the Bellingham event, my husband and I attended the Seattle Boat Show at Qwest Field in downtown Seattle. I presented my slide show at one of the seminars then signed books at Armchair Sailor Books. There I signed a book for a fellow from Ketchikan, Alaska. Come to find out, he was a friend of one of my brothers!

It does indeed seem like a small world at times.

The snow is already thigh-high in our yard in north Idaho, and we’re expecting more tonight. A little difficult to get around…but beautiful.
