Lindsey Davis 10/17/2009 11:53:49 AM Before discussing my author for this blog, I want to note that my latest book, GHOSTS FROM THE PAST came out this month. This is the third in the series that combines mystery with the supernatural in New England. If you are as reluctant to spend money on hardcover books as I am, encourage your local library to purchase it. The more readers the better.
For this month I wanted to briefly discuss the mystery author Lindsey Davis. She is better known than the other authors that have been recently discussed on this blog, but for those of you who don't know her, her books are a real treat. She is a British author and has written nineteen books in her Marcus Didius Falco series. Falco is a detective in Rome in the first century A.D., and his cases take him all over the empire, often in the company of his lovely wife Helena Justina. What makes these books so amusing is that Falco is a hard boiled detective workings on the mean streets of ancient Rome. But this is not a parody! It works because Falco is a personable, intelligent character, and the plots are usually very engaging. Plus you learn a great deal about the ancient Roman world. If you haven't tried one of Davis' books I would urge you to do so, even if historical fiction is not usually your cup of tea.
