MARK and JOHN 11/26/2009 6:37:58 PM Now that the revised edition of "MARK and JOHN: The First and Last Gospels" is available, I'd hoped to continue work on Matthew. This new translation is actually titled. "What Matthew Really Wrote!" I've severely pruned the proof texts that were added by misguided editors and copyists (though I have included them in the Notes) and completely dropped the nonsensical genealogy -- Saint Paul's word, not mine -- expressly condemned by Paul in his letters to both Timothy and Titus. So what to work on? PSALMS, it is! The aim is to make my literal transcriptions from the Greek Septuagint more poetic.
Here now is my original translation of Psalm 132 [133] (132 is the Septuagint number, 133 is the Hebrew number):
Hear now! What’s so good or so pleasant
as that God’s people live together as brothers?
It’s like precious ointment poured on Aaron’s head,
and running down his beard to the fringe of his robes.
It’s like the silvery dew on Mount Hermon
that falls on the hills of Zion.
Here is where the Lord God has promised His blessing:
Life that never ends!
The aim is to make this translation more poetic and yet retain not only its sentiments but its vocabulary!
