Hope when you need it most.
Jesus and the Miraculous Catch of Fish
"I'm going out to fish," Simon Peter told them, and they said, "We'll go with you." So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. 4Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. 5He called out to them, "Friends, haven't you any fish?"
"No," they answered. 6He said, "Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some." When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. 7Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, "It is the Lord," he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. 8The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards.[b] 9When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread. 10Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish you have just caught." 11Simon Peter climbed aboard and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn.
Lessons to learn from this:
You are to fish for men so go and fish. You won’t always catch a fish, but keep on going out into the boat of life, throwing spiritual and natural nets (blessings) to neighbors and nations until the Holy Spirit lures them to your ministry.
Sometimes your life will become dull. You might begin to struggle financially, relationally, socially, spiritually, emotionally, mentally, etc., but stay in the boat of Jesus because He will show up where you are waiting.
Have faith and believe that after you have suffered disappointments, doubts, sorrow, betrayal, debt…you can still TRY AGAIN. The disciples had enough faith to throw their net one more time. They could have gotten frustrated since they were fishing all night and hadn't caught blessing; however, they trusted God and threw the net one more time.
Sometimes you will be in a situation that will die and begin to stink like Lazarus, but if Jesus comes to your stinking situation and tells you to do something…DO IT. Reality will tell you to give up and DIE, but faith will echo, “Trust and obey God.”
After you trust God about your situation, you will be blessed in abundance. Peter and the others were blessed with a lot of fish. If you are waiting on God for love, your reward will be a whole net full of Godly love. If you are waiting on God for healing, your healing will fill the net. If you are waiting on God for finances, your net will overflow with money. Notice that the disciples did not catch hope in their net. They catch what they were waiting and wanting to catching, FISH. God isn’t so deep to overlook our need and desire. Let God out of your limited box. Don't be a Pharisee.
And remember, the thing the Lord will use to capture the blessing won’t break, won’t get damaged. Don’t become doubtful. The net caught a lot of fish and yet the net wasn’t damaged. What you are using for the Lord and to bless people will not become destroyed. Have faith. Those who come to God must have faith. “6And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him” (Heb. 11-6).
God will reward you for waiting in a boat, under a dark sky, waiting to receive your blessing. Don't give up and lose your faith!
Jacob Wrestles With God
“22 That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two maidservants and his eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. 23 After he had sent them across the stream, he sent over all his possessions. 24 So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. 25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob's hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. 26 Then the man said, "Let me go, for it is daybreak."
But Jacob replied, "I will not let you go unless you bless me." 27 The man asked him, "What is your name?"
"Jacob," he answered. 28 Then the man said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, [e] because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome." 29 Jacob said, "Please tell me your name."
But he replied, "Why do you ask my name?" Then he blessed him there” (Gen 32:22-29).
As you wait in your boat, and the fishes are not coming into your net, begin to wrestle with God through prayer, worship, praise, obedience, faithfulness, etc. You are not fighting to get away from God. You are pressing into His presence until His mercy falls on you. Press into Him like the woman with the issue of blood. Don’t just sit in your boat, complaining, worrying, and losing faith. Wrestle with God until He changes you or your situation.
