Take the First Step

I know how to set goals and make resolutions, but often, I'm not sure what I really want. It's hard to figure out, because it seems like they are aways changing--like the scenes on TV.
I discovered that if I have a long range goal or a vision for what I want my life to be 10 years from now, it's easier to make short term goals with that in mind. Stephen Covey said, "Begin with the end in mind." So if I begin goal setting with a long view, it's easier to figure out the steps to get there. Like when I was a District Governor for Toastmasters, I had a year to do whatever I could to lead my group forward, as all District Governors do. Success was clearly defined by the Toastmsters organization, educational programs and enlarging the organization. We knew when (how much time we had) and we knew what (points were assigned to activities), but we didn't know how. That was left to our creative imaginations! When you know what you want and when you want it, the next step is to figure out how to get it! My book "Take Charge of Your Life" can help.
