Seven Effective Ways to Reduce Stress
4/19/2009 4:29:55 PM
Overcoming Today's Stresses Require Diligence and Creativity.
We live in one of the most stressful times this country and the world have ever experienced.
So many major things need fixing or,at least, adjusting.
The dire condition of the banking industry, the housing debacle, the car industry plight, and the frightful state of the economy in general, all cause major stress.
No matter where we live in this country,we are affected in some way by the sad state of affairs.
I am sure most of us have created effective ways to reduce the level of negative stress in our lives, but these times require even more diligence and creativity if we are to maintain our balance.
Over the years, I have learned that consciously reducing the level of bad stress,no matter what its cause, significantly improves my overall well being.
Several activities have been used with varying degrees of success, and I will briefly share the most effective ones with you.
One of the best ways I have found to relieve stress is to simply breathe;yes, the simple act of breathing when under undue stress, works wonders.
Consciously taking two or three deep breaths will help us to focus on breathing properly, and as a result, our level of stress is reduced.
Exercising the facial muscles also relieves stress;it may not look so pretty, but it is an excellent stress buster.
Just open the mouth as wide as you can, preferably while alone, and contort or twist the face into as many shapes as possible for a minute or two. This one is very effective.
Writing about what is causing your stress is another good stress reducer. For those of you who already love to write, this may be a very effective exercise, and it is one that I have used successfully for thirteen plus years;the success was so effective that I felt compelled to share it with you and others in my first book entitled Journaling: Twenty Plus Reasons Why You Should Start Now.
Other excellent ways to reduce the level of bad stress include:Working on a hobby,Listening to calming relaxing music,Taking a walk or other form of exercise, and Praying or Meditating.
All of these "stress busters" are quite beneficial, and most of them bring immediate relief.
You may already use some of them, and you may decide that others are not right for you. Please take whatever you think will work for you and your loved ones and discard what you think does not work,as I do,and remember:We,America, are all in this together.
I would appreciate your comment on which,if any, of these exercises work for you.
