First Butterfly
2/12/2009 9:12:07 AM    [ Flag as Inappropriate ]

I saw my first butterfly yesterday. It was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Oh, it was a pretty butterfly yellow and black, but that wasn't what made it so special. What made it special is that it represents hope for me. A new beginning, new birth, not just of the earth but of me and my soul. And trust me I needed to be reminded of new beginnings after the year I just had.
It's always hard to start over, but the older you get the harder it is. Don't get me wrong it's natural to have to go through the process. We do it many times in our lives.
Being physically born is just the first step. We live in the cocoon of childhood and then one day, or it seems like it takes place in one day, we're thrust into the world of adulthood.
Before we know it we're in love and have to begin again as a "we" instead of a "me". Then along come the kids and suddenly we're the ones protecting the cocoon making sure that nothing disturbs the prescious child within. When our butterflies leave the nest we're back to learing how to be two again.
So change is inevitable what made this years changes so hard for me was IKE. I lived for twenty-six years in Florida, I made it through 18 hurricanes without being evacuated, or losing anything. I moved to Houston and the first hurricane stripped me of everything. It was a hard pill to swollow. I felt as if I was locked in a dark place and wouldn't recover, but yesterday morning, a simple, beautiful butterfly reminded me that just being alive is worth everyting, and sometines being in a cocoon isn't so bad.
