Qaidat al-Jihad has targeted the US for mass Destruction
3/29/2010 3:30:00 PM
Six years ago in a dingy coffee shop on the corner of a broken down cobblestone street, three bearded men discussed the possibility of destroying a major city in the United States. The meeting took place in the city of Peshawar on the northwest frontier of Pakistan. The participants were members of the Qaidat al-Jihad (Islamic army for the liberation of the Holy places) a little known terrorist organization with ties to Bin Laden’s Al Qaeda network. The discussion revolved around technology recently maid available to the organization through Tehran from remnants of the old Soviet Union. This very small group of incredibly dangerous people had to decide whether the cost of such an bold undertaking with an untested device, was worth it. Funding would come from the already diminished poppy fields of Afghanistan and be hard to come by. But if they could pull it off it would send a shockwave around the world.

The devise in question was a 10-kiloton nuclear bomb that could be housed in a three-foot trunk. It could be detonated with a timing device or a mobile phone. The biggest obstacle they faced was a way to penetrate US security and then deliver the bomb to the chosen location, one of the four largest American cities. They realized it could not be done without the help of insiders sympathetic to their cause. Before them on a grubby little table lay a hand written list of just such a company. There was much left too do, not the least of which was to locate and consult Osama bin Laden who had the final say. The taskforce that intercepted the information revealed in this covert meeting is still investigating its resource. Whether or not the plan has been activated remains to be seen. One thing is for certain, success would result in the greatest disaster ever carry out against the United States.
