Mankind In A Hole
12/18/2003 3:53:38 PM    [ Flag as Spam or Inappropriate ]

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was watching Saddam's face on the news, after his capture, wondering how one man can cause such misery and fill others with such hatred for another. I know it's happened before, but not so near to what I love, in his connection to the lengths fanatics will go, in our age, to continue to incite hatred against others. As with all people I see, I want to know what is going on in his head, see what influenced him to become that person I see in front of my eyes. Strange broodings...was it the power? Or the thrill of control? Could it be an enjoyment in other's suffering? What makes a Man become such a person? Strange, so strange to be this man. The flipside would be to be a Ghandi...also strange, in the totality of goodness he portrayed. Darkness and Light.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What does a man think of
in his prison of squalid madness,
in his inner fanatic gladness
of the ‘righteous’ suffering he has caused?
Does he relive his supposed glory,
avidly remember atrocities
that fed his grandiose illusions of
eternity’s nod of kind approval?

What did this man feel
within his souled prison walls
as he contemplated looping utopic fantasies
of empowering his ways over the human race?
Did he scratch absently at a flea,
hunkered in raptured gracility
of his shadowed-sun life
in murdering his bretherned kind?

What does a man see
in the convoluted prison inside
the gaping dark hole of his mind,
devoid of humanity’s reason and rhyme?
Does he exit reality’s binds,
consume his soul’s decadent wine
as he even now divines
he is one of a kind?

Where can we hide
from strictured minds?
