Breaking Stereotypes
12/1/2007 7:43:32 AM
It has taken some courage on my part.
...That's what IMPRINTS is about.
There are many different scenarios covered in IMPRINTS regarding stereotyping. I have had an extensive history in being forced into situations that were less than desirous. Yet, in these unfavorable situations, I was tremendously blessed in ways that astounded me and certainly broke my every thought pattern regarding those stereotypes.

Some of the most valuable possessions I now own are from people I met during those times. Some may see them as simplistic. The story behind the item is more valuable than any monetary count. I am referring to one chapter called "Diamond in the Parking Lot". The item I gained on that day from a questionable figure I was originally scared of is now very close to me in my bedroom, and stays very close by. I'll let the book speak for itself.

I have a dear friend who tells me she loves "It's Gravy" above all the others. I don't think she's read the others yet! My dear love of a friend who is opening up her home for a community book signing does not know yet that she is included in one of the chapters as an example of love in action. Just wait! When it comes to treating people in the midst of a seizure with love, this friend of mine has it completely. She could teach the world. I certainly hope this chapter helps to break the stigma of how the world views people with seizure disorders.

Then there are chapters about substance abuse, family relationships, homelessness, and special people to fill in the gaps. There are chapters about God's grace being the only means to get through on at all. Head knowledge becomes heart knowledge and fully utilized in walking a faith journey. Having to live out one's faith rather than merely talking it certainly changes a person's outlook.

I'm looking forward to feedback on this little book IMPRINTS. It has taken some courage on my part. Yet, I certainly had some conviction about it. My first signing will be this month, and I've got an upcoming magazine article. This is all in God's hands. It's His work. Let Him steer this work.
