Without Communication 9/15/2008 12:19:23 PM More about the local issues on Ike....
we're all okay down here... just without communication. More about the local issues on Ike....
For my readers who are anxious about phone connections in Tomball, Magnolia, Decker Prairie, and all around Northwest Harris County and Montgomery County.... the cell lines are all down. I cannot even get through to my students much less to family members. That does not mean that they are not faring well. I've had a student reach me, but I cannot dial out. I suppose they were in Houston on a landline... my own landline is down although it was up yesterday.... don't know what's going on, but I trust that's the disruption of Ike.
Laura, if you're reading: Take heart! - I tried to call you, but can't get through. My cell won't work. My regular phone won't work. But I am high and dry. I have a student from Magnolia coming in today, and I'll ask them about the kennel you mentioned. That's about all I can do.
You should see the giant oaks down in this town. I got out yesterday and went looking. I tears my heart out to see the trees that have been torn from their roots, collapsed onto cars or onto corners of houses. Entire brick fences are collapsed. It's sickening to see the collapse of such beauty... and yet, Tomball got off rather quietly.
I'll try to keep y'all updated. You should see the gas lines! People lined up 10 cars deep at any station that has a hint of gasoline. Lucky me, I filled up prior to this, and didn't go around sightseeing like half of the city.... I've still got half a tank. Most of the Tomballians are stuck from going into 'the city' - that's Houston for you not familiar - unless they can get gas.... like my husband.... he can't get into his place of work w/o gas. It will bring this entire region to a dead halt. Yet, slowly, I know there are stations coming back to service.
I serviced some youths this morning from a local residence who had been w/o a shower for about 4 days. All I could do was let them into my church to use the facilities, but at least I could do that. I hate feeling grungy. Outward appearance has so much of an affect on what we say and do.
The city of Tomball has really gone into action. I've seen service vehicles everywhere in my small drive to and from the church. That's what I love about this town: fast action. So take heart, Laura..... we're all okay down here... just without communication.
