Little Bo Richard!
6/3/2010 9:30:25 PM
Well, what a day yesterday turned out to be at Low Arvie!
We have had so little rain for about eight weeks now and the burn (stream) which forms part of our boundary (TLoLA) is very low. There is one place where the Ladies can get across it and on Wednesday night(as we found out later) they decided to go on an adventure across the burn and into the forest. We thought that they were in our Bog of Allan field which we can't see from the house and when Richard went to check on them yesterday, they weren't there. Of course, I panicked and imagined all kinds of things, but Richard was his usual calm self and he just set off into the forest to find them. There are firebreaks amongst the forest trees and the Ladies could see the fresh green grass growing there and decided that the grass is greener! Over their day of freedom, they had roamed and grazed their way through these breaks and, when Richard eventually found them, they were about a mile away! He just told them to go home and, believe it or not, they did. He didn't have to do anything else and they just ambled their way back to the burn and up to the farm.

Fortunately they are quite safe in the forest as there are no roads and the land stretches for miles, uninhabited and untravelled by humans. But I now know how Little Bo Peep felt! It was scary, until I knew they were back home 'wagging their tails behind them!'

It's Friday again, so you know what that means! Latin this morning, then the Dorothys (all three today so sparks should be flying again!)(see earlier blogs) and then my little 'Maths' girl in Dalbeattie, so I shan't be home until 7.30pm.

Richard also has a 'date' on Friday evenings when he visits an old lady in the village to collect our local paper, which is delivered to her for us. She is called Agnes and is a spinster almost eighty years of age. She and Richard have a real 'rapport' and he goes down there every Friday and spends an hour or two with her. Everybody thinks she is rather a 'crabbit' old soul, but she and Richard get on very well and she looks forward to his visit very much. If I have to go for any reason (eg if R has a migraine), I can see the disappointment in her. She has lived all of her life in the village and used to be the school cook, (when the school was open, as like everything here except the pub, it has now closed through lack of customers). The only time the R has been excused his visit (except for migraines) has been when we were silaging last year and he had to work late into the night to get the grass home. Agnes then graciously allowed me to go and get the paper - but she made it plain that she was only putting up with me for one week!

Take care, I will be blogging from England next time as I go back to Warwick tomorrow morning (6.17am train from Dumfries)to see Catherine and her lovely American husband (LwtLoLA), attend my niece's wedding and carry on with my novel. Yes, it's back to Tabitha and Michael, then. (see earlier blogs) I wonder what they will be getting up to this week!

Lxx
