Blah, Blah, Blah

Bridget, a little buoyed by our win at Trivia Night invited me outside for a drink. I was about to type in my blog that I thought that I could avoid her invitation. Besides, it was cold outside. Although I felt hesitant, I obliged her. We approached a table where PDX Mike was sitting with another man. Turns out, he did not know who he was. They were just sitting together. Bridget introduced herself and the conversation ensued.
His name was Jordi. I saw him earlier in Trivia. I think that I saw him earlier before but that was several days ago. Bridget asked where he comes from and what he does. He did not hesitate to answer that he comes from Boston. He moved into his new place quite a few blocks from Trumps. He said that he regularly visits Trumps a while back and stopped when he moved farther away. As he came back, he noticed no difference of what Trumps was and now, smoking was banned. But smoking was banned anyways a few years back. Trumps was no exception. Trumps was grandfathered to allow cigar smokers to smoke.
Ryan joined in the fray, first just standing there and subsequently he began to converse with Mike. I don’t quite get what they were discussing because I was concentrating on the conversation between Jordi and Bridget. But I gather they were talking about democracy, about the Greeks; that somehow, the United States was not a democracy but a republic.
And then, a tall gentleman approached our table. He wore a suit with an unbuttoned shirt. He was asking for a match to light his cigarette. But this time, I was shivering in the cold. And then, the introductions came. His name was Jim and he became part of the group that Bridget was conducting. Mike and Ryan were still discussing about democracy while I was by myself, trying to gather what Bridget, Jordi and Jim were discussing. They talked about officiating games. I surmised that it was about basketball but looking through the pint glass Ryan was holding I cannot see what was going on. Ryan was in between me and Bridget’s group. So I thought that he worked for the Trail Blazer but later I learned that he worked for being a referee for high school games. He also refereed middle schools and grade schools games. He was out late tonight because he attended a meeting to choose their commissioner.
Then after Mike had finished conversing with Ryan, he turned his attention to Jim. They talked about Mike’s dog, about throwing a ball and collecting it with slobber all over.
Everything here seemed to be a blur. To me, listening to their conversation was all blah, blah blah. But it was an interesting blah, blah, talking about different topics, trying to tell their stories and listening to what the other was saying. But I don’t quite understand the entire stories. Snippets, yes. But the fun of it all was trying to listen to a host of conversation occurring at the same time that the scenario became funny. Of course I just laughed it out (by myself). It was difficult to listen or be part of the conversation because Ryan was standing with his pint glass between me and Bridget’s group, Ryan and Mike were talking so loud that it drowned out what Jim was saying and by the time Mike and Jim were talking, I was so cold that I excused myself and retired to the confines of the bar to soak up some heat.
When I came in, Bridget soon followed. We exchanged some closing thoughts and I embraced her to say goodbye for the night. Ryan followed suit. I likewise embraced him, too. He whispered, “Namaste” (something he whispers when saying goodbye, much like when Russ goes home and says, “Do the right thing.”) And in that night we end our day.
