Sleepy
2/21/2012 9:24:08 PM    [ Flag as Inappropriate ]

After Trivia, I decided to go home and sleep early so that the next day, I could wake up at 6-6:30 am for a meeting at 8:00. I got scared once when I woke up at 7:30 am. I called my boss that I am going to be late for work since it was heavy traffic on I-84 (Interstate 84). He asked where I was going after the meeting. I said that I was headed for Vancouver, Washington. He said not to come to the meeting so and that I should be heading for Vancouver at 10:00 am. Whew! That was closed. My heart was beating real fast, then. So, now, I decided to go home early so that I could get my nighty-night.

But Janice offered a free half-pint of beer. She said that it is for winning Trivia. I accepted it but with reluctance. I spent 45 minutes more at Greater Trumps dilly-dallying up on my computer and occasionally turned my attention to PDX Mike and the other guy’s conversation. Soon enough, I said my goodbyes and off I went home. Again, I was worried for I have to wake up at 6:00 am. But I was not as worried as when I had that meeting with my boss.

At home, I quickly changed and jumped into bed switched on the television and supposedly, I should be snoozing. But OPB (Oregon Public Broadcasting) was having News Hour. I love to watch the News Hours because it’s reporting was respectable and it became a habit for me to view it. On ordinary times, I would allow myself to watch it until 1 am, and then I go to sleep. But not tonight. And so, after the News Hour, off to bed I would go, right? Wrong. It was Michael Palin’s “Himalaya”. It was his exploits and stories about his gallabandering about in the Himalayas. Tonight, it showed his accent to the foothills of Mt. Everest. He starts off flying in a hand-made aircraft over the Himalayas and then the show moves on to his expedition over Nepal. He left Nepal and travel on the 17,000 foot plateau of Tibet and make a u-turn on it to the north face of that Great Mountain. So, was I ready for sleep? NO! I watched Downton Abbey. It was a story about the British aristocracy in earliest part of the 20th century. I figured that this will take only about an hour. Most of its episodes are an hour. The story revolved around the Earl and his family and his staff. The episode had most of the characters having Spanish flu. I didn’t know about that disease. It must have been gruesome because Lavinga, Matthews’s bride-to-be, died. The Earl’s wife caught it too but she did not die. It also was an episode wherein the Earl said goodbye to a maid who he was initiating a relationship with. And the son of a lieutenant’s was being decided on. He was the bastard son of a maid and a lieutenant. The lieutenant’s family was very rich and part of the aristocracy. The episode took 2 hours and not 1 hour. So I slept after 4 am.

The next morning, about 6:30 am, I woke up semi groggy. I went to work at about 7 am, slept in the car and by 8:00 am, I was in the meeting. This time, I did not feel sleepy (nor when I arrived at the Costco in Vancouver). My shift ended at about 8:30 pm and by that time, I felt so sleepy. As my habit would suggest, I did not head home. I instead went to Greater Trumps. I spent my time there checking on different statistics, not even concentrating on typing up a blog. Of course, like usual, I went to bed at about 1am, after OPB’s News Hour. Tomorrow was another day.
