Once an inland Sea - no other explanation
11/5/2011 12:51:35 PM

Continuing with the life experience that enabled me to write my Australian outback sagas.

Yesterday I was relating theexperience of taking my four boys to pony club where the steep sandy road through the Australian bush always  bothered me.  I was saying......       “If I wasn’t going up a steep white sandy hill, I wassliding down another. I had my own idea about the lavish tons of white sand onthe strip of land in the immediate area.

Perhaps, a hundred million years ago an inland sea swamped thecentral regions and sea monsters and dinosaurs...

There was surely no other explanation.  I hated that road.  I always warnedthe boys if they played-up in the car, I would simply stop until they didbehave and it would be their fault if they were late for pony club. The day myhusband almost had a search-partyready to come looking for us, was the day my children decided to behave whilemum was taking them to pony club.

With my mind still rattling on aboutobstructive sandy roads, noting the probability of an ancient time before time had me thinking of Cooyar’s own Piccabeen Palm Forest. The little knownPalms National Forest had to haveroots in ancient bygone times when land and sea had dimensions unknown. Couldthere be any other explanation? The palm vine forest, resplendent with massesof piccabeenpalms, tree ferns, and cycads, strangler figs, and ancients bunya pines madeskidding on sandy roads down the Mount Binga range absolutely worthwhile if oneis connected to the other. This 20 acre wonderset in a spring-fed gully is an unexpected delight, an oasis in theAustralian bush. It was the perfect destination for the Pony Club’s Christmasbreak-up party...
