My grandfather was profoundly in love with Lillian Gish.
He wrote this about her.
I miss them.

Of what event in history
Is this the anniversary?
To most, it’s just the natal day
Of Washington, to whom they pay
Respects by eating cherry pie
Because he could not tell a lie.
I’ve other cause to celebrate:
It happens it was on this date
A queen did deign to dine with me,
And priceless is the memory;
Now, that event is what, I say,
Makes this a major holiday!
(To me the cherry pie is pale
Compared to mutton chop and ale.)
