What happens after the signing of a book contract. Blog #1
I thought I had posted the exciting news that I recently received a contract on my horror novel, The Mortician's Daughter. But apparently that blog got lost somewhere in the internet fun house. Sorry about that! I'll give it another try here.
I found a publishing house (Solstice Publishing) for my horror novel, The Mortician's Wife! Yay!!! (Maybe you've noticed how excited I am.) No, it's not the first time I've received contracts for previous books. But, for me at least, each new contract is still a big thrill. I never get tired of it!
Now it's time for me to get to work on the business side of this industry. For those of you who have never gone through this process I thought you might find it interesting if I blogged about each step of the publication process as I work through it. All of my books have been published by ePublishers, so what I will be posting may not follow completely the steps required by traditional publishers (I call them the New York Pubs), but I suspect most of it will be quite similar.
After I finished writing The Mortician's Wife I began to study the many epubs, trying to find just the right match for this rather unusual book. I finally chose Solstice Publisher for two reasons: I was impressed by their site and book covers and I noted that they were already publishing books of my genre.
Apparently I chose well, because in a rather short time I received that exciting email offering me the contract.
Along with the contract, they sent me a Cover Art Form. It was my duty to fill it out as quickly and thoroughly as possible and send it on to the artist...which I have now done.
My next job will be to be write out a blurb (a very short synopsis) that will be used for advertising. This is what you usually see on the back of books.
My book has now been sent off to my new editor, after the Editor-in-Chief made a few suggestions himself. (I am very impressed that the Editor-in-Chief gave my book his personal attention. This has never happened to me before.)
Now I'm in a hold mode, waiting for the edits. Considering the efficiency I've already seen at Solstice, I rather expect my wait will not be long. I'll let you know how that works out!
