Someone Open A Window!
2/1/2012 5:34:15 PM    [ Flag as Inappropriate ]

Hope cannot spread through closed doors and windows.
Someone Open A Window!

An expression that I love, and that used to drive one friend in particular crazy (right, Ev?) was: “God never closes a door, but He opens a window.” So every day, I start out by filling my oilcan with heavy-duty hope, and I’m off - checking for doors and windows that I can coax open. There are so many doors that we are afraid to open: doors like the one that would usher in the year 2000 – that was the year when the world was supposed to go into total melt down – computers first, and then the rest of our dependant world soon afterwards! A dozen years later, and we have survived another year that was supposed to end - at least twice! Maybe our problem is the survival attitude that has become too entrenched in our thinking. Why else am I drawn to purchase every candle I see at garage sales, and rather than lighting one beautiful candle, sitting back and appreciating its warm glow, I stow it away, waiting for one of those disasters that are sure to pounce on us. We are too willing to give in and jump into that widening pool of despair. What would happen if we looked at each year, as a beautiful gift that we have opened; a treasure that we have tried to appreciate well, rather than having just guarded; one that we will build on to fully live a beautiful tomorrow - with as much joy as we can muster!
Today, I will begin a daybook that will contain at least one good thing that happens each day – a treasure chest to open up and remind me that there are beautiful doors and windows waiting to be opened all around me. The world will always have challenges and disasters; and there will always be injustices and disappointments, big and small, ready to entice us into that dark blue pool of despair. The real challenge for us as individuals is, rather than allowing our souls to be weighted down with that same darkness, to use our own unique light to throw open those windows and lift those moody blues. We will never find the answers with our windows closed and shuttered.
