Who said it was going to be easy?

The writer's life, and remaining optimistic.
Writing is a lonely life. As writers, we often times find ourselves sitting at the keyboard, crafting, creating, thinking, and trying to get the storyline moving ahead. There are no throngs of cheering people looking over our shoulders, personally, I wouldn't want that anyway. I'd lose my train of thought.

What we do have is hope. Always keep hope alive. I once heard a man speak and he said, that each day has 24 hours, you can choose to use those hours anyway you want. You can be unproductive, or you can produce. In the end, we still have 24-hours. One thing though, you are not getting them back. So, use them wisely.

So, you want to be a writer, who doesn't. How many times have we heard a person say, I could write a book. I've heard it more times than I can count. They should say, "I can start a book." I've met hundreds of people who have began a novel, and they quit. It's work, hard work too. Who said it was going to be easy?

When we write, we need to stay connected to the chair, and set a target of just how much we wish to get done for the day. I am currently working on, A Flynn City Christmas, the second book in the series of, The Flynn City Egg Man. There are days, when the words flow like an old spring out the side of a flower covered mountainside, and then there are times I feel like I am stuck in some garbage dump of a landfill, and I have to claw my way out to just get a few sentences done. How do you over come this, you might wonder. I go back to the flower covered mountain is what I do. Get that mind set where you are going to get it done, where today YOU are going to do a thousand words, no matter what.

You will be surprised how that thousand words will take you to another thousand. Keep your mind sharp, if you get up from your writing space, walk around a bit, take a few deep breaths, and ask yourself, how can I move this story forward? What can I do to flesh out this character more, I don't want him or her to be a piece of cardboard fluttering in the wind. Make them colorful, make them real, make them have wrinkles, or short hair. Give them life.

Remember, you have the power to give birth, or to take life. That is what you have over your characters, that they don't have over you. No one said it would be easy, but you can make the art of writing, easier.
