Here We Go Again

I tried and tried to refrain about writing on political issues in this blog and concentrate on writing matters but the world around me just won't let me. I must confess I haven't done much fiction writing lately so I don't have much to say on that subject. I am in the middle of writing a novel and perhaps I'll add some excerpts on Author's Den soon.
BUT - recent events here (I live in the UK) have made me focus on the current scourge of mankind - Islamic terrorism. I don't have much to say about the London bombings other than they were entirely predictable. Not because the UK has bravely accompanied us in our liberation of Iraq. No, it's because the UK is one of those European nation that turns a blind eye to massive immigration of Muslims into the midst of their societies. Yes, I know, most Muslims are peaceful and hate the acts of the terrorists as much as the rest of us. Yet the people who have apparently performed this heinous act came from within Britain's existing Muslim population (no doubt financed and supported from al-Qaeda operatives abroad).
Remember what Arnold Toynbee once said: "Civilizations die from suicide, not murder."
The thing that has me really incensed, however, is an item to Australia (with kudos to Mark Steyn for pointing this out in a recent issue of the wonderful magazine National Review.) A certain Douglas Wood, an Australian, was held by Islamic terrorists in Iraq. During his ordeal, while blindfolded, he had to listen to the murder of two of his colleagues. Luckily he was released. Subsequently, in a statement, he called his captors "assholes." Well, the editor of a Melbourne, Australia newspaper, one Mr. Andrew Jaspan, took offense and said that Wood's comments were "insensitive."
Insensitive! To whom? The guys who kidnapped him, held him hostage and killed two of his colleagues? Imagine that! The absolute gall of the man!
This is absolutely incredible. Beyond belief. These people who kidnapped Mr. Wood are not merely "assholes" - they are the scum of the earth. They deserve to be hunted down and killed mercilessly. Period.
As a matter of fact, I think Mr. Jaspan's comments are insensitive - to assholes! A group, within which, I consider Mr. Jaspan to be a prominent member.
