The last of June...
On the last day of June, I mailed off my second book contracts to Publish America AND mailed off a copy of the book along with Form TX and a check for 30 bucks to the Library of Congress for my copyright certificate. I feel so much better since that is taken care of. I have had some major problems with the mail lately. I had to go to another post office because of my distrust of the closer one. Why? In January, I ordered 2 of my own books for gifts. One was going to a very important person--namely Kevin Costner because the book was written for him! In February, what I got was an empty mailing envelope that had been sliced open and both books stolen!!! The only evidence they'd been there was the shipping invoice. I contacted Publish America and they immediately shipped me out two additional copies at no cost to me. And then a couple a weeks later, two more copies arrived mysteriously. I still can't figure that out.
So I mailed Kevin's copy to him on March 16th. He still hasn't received it. Nobody knows where it went. I correspond with his cousin who has a website and she informed me that she asked him personally if he got it and he hadn't. I had to get a special form, fill it out, copy it for my records, and turn it in. That was on June 30th too. Quite a productive day...I hope. I am still wondering why the Postal Inspector has not found anything out about the theft of my books. Maybe they mean nothing to him or her, but they were important to me. So in our local newspaper yesterday, there was an article about mail theft. It's gotten to be quite a problem in my area. I don't know what is happening to our world. You have to pay so much to let your mail travel for you and you're lucky if you get it and others get what you send to them. Message to the post office--bring back the 2 cent stamp if that's the way you're gonna be! Have a wonderful and safe 4th of July.
