What is a Blog?

Acronyms are not intuitive. Once I saw the definition, it was obvious.
There has been much in the virtual press in recent times about everyone's "blog." I looked at several examples and noted what they seemed to be: streams of consciousness, reports of happenings, opinions, musings, drivel, oftimes crap. But it did not occur to me just what the term blog was meant to represent.
Then the other day I read a NYTimes article talking about weblogs, and suddenly the connection was made. A weblog, a 'blog, a blog. What was so outstanding about that? I have been doing that for the past seven years (www.twopennytravels.com).
But as I thought more about how technology has progressed (or more importantly, how parts of it have become so commonplace it is now used in ways one never thought it would be) I realized this is a natural outgrowth of our society. People have the opportunity to expose their minds without fear of embarrassment. It is almost like flashing a parking meter.
In any case, I decided to use this blog to do my flashing, not that it will be erotic, but I might make some of it controversial. I will just have to think of how I can do that.
