But I do use the Writers and Artists' Year Book
9/29/2006 10:28:53 AM    [ Flag as Spam or Inappropriate ]

I really am a professional. Why can't they see that?
One of the most irritating things I find in a rejection letter is being told to consult the Writers and Artists Year Book. Now where on earth do they think I got their name and address from in the first place?
The other little niggling thought is that maybe I came across as an amateur. Didnít they read the bit about my having already published? Are they not impressed with that?
How rejections still hurt. However, I no longer feel angry, just inadequate. Can I really not write? Sometime I think that. Other times I know I can. Perhaps part of the craft is being firm with oneself.
Going hand in hand with this, I believe, is the fact that I even become fussier about my own work. I edit even after itís publishes. I find myself editing other peopleís work. Is this all part of the craft?
