The Any Agency
6/2/2010 10:49:44 AM
Any...any...any
In 2004, on the spur of the moment, I decided to write a detective novel for a contest run my a major publishing house and Mystery Writers of America.

There were certain criteria which had to be incorporated in the novel and the deadline was forbiddingly tight. I had seven weeks to do it, oh! and yes, the story made it into the finals.

I didn't have anything prepared, had written historical novels (albeit with an element of mystery in each), and had been led to think my English wasn't up to 'modern days and ways.'

Still, I needed a change and a distraction, so I sat down to do some intense work. I needed a name for the detective agency, for which my detective would work. Since I had always been fond of the name Anna (I named one of my historical heroines 'Anna'), my Lady P.I. became Anna, fondly called Annie. Her last name came easily to me: Bradford after the pear trees in bloom at the time.

So I had Anna/Annie and playing with that, I decided her detective uncle might have called his agency, the Any Agency -- with the motto: anyone, anywhere, anytime...he was that confident and that good.

In 2008, the book was released by my POD publisher (that means I was the sole editor and no one changed a thing in that manuscript). I decided to feature the detective agency in the title, but also give the hint of a topic...hence: The Any Agency: Wild Violets....

Now, during the past year or two and still today, all of a sudden, I keep seeing TV advertisements and keep hearing radio spots in which the 'anyone, anywhere, anytime' rings louder than bells...pizza places, sandwhich places, phone companies, and sundry such businesses use these words ...hurray for originality!

One thing then is clear...ad copy writers watch the competition and jump on any (yes, any) new thingie...and just have to use it too...

Well, that's all fine...but I would really like you to know that 'My' Any Agency was born six years ago. :)

Ah yes, and I had set up the possibilities for many more Any Agency Cases...maybe in time...

Gina
