A daily dose of motivation
4/21/2005 4:32:27 PM
This was recently posted in my first newsletter and it applied again for me today...

A DOSE OF MOTIVATION:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I finally accepted the fact that I am the type of person that needs a daily dose of motivation. Sometimes it can be a poem, a song, a few pages of a book, a good piece of chocolate, just something. Like an addict needs a fix, I need a few words to inspire me and remind me why I must handle the task at hand so that I have time for the things I really want to do, like write.
My paying job is in Sales/Marketing. I am one of the lucky few that works full-time from home. As a single mother this is proof that an angel is always at my side. My desk looks like a motivational post it board. Yellow post it notes contain motivating blurbs I either read or heard along the way.
A sales associate gave me a number that his boss has the entire sales team listen to each morning to motivate him or her for the day. I have been calling the number for months now. A Dr. Gilbert created this number for a class project to motivate his student; this was over 10 years ago. Now people from all over call to hear his motivation for the day. It has helped to know I am not the only person that can't survive on my thoughts alone.
I find that I need this dose of motivational caffeine around 3:00 in the afternoon on workdays. Motivation is hard; you can't just pop a pill (well you shouldn't) and get motivated. I find that if I step away from the moment of minor depression or disbelief in myself self and do something that has motivated me in the past like playing my Riverdance tape (always works) or taking a bath, reading a motivational book or poem or having a cup of tea while sitting in the sun, that I can wash away the motivation less (if that is a word?) me and the motivated me will return even more energized than before.
Although sometime it can be more difficult when I am buried under work, errands, grocery shopping, bills and more. On those days I may need to listen to a good song while taking a bath, sipping tea and reading a book. The problem will not get any better if I do nothing! Sometimes you have to try everything, but try something, my point is motivation will return, eventually.
I wrote the following poem 10 years ago and honesty still read it everyday. This is my gift of motivation to you today and everyday:
Focus
Focus
Focus
Look at nothing else
Put on all your blinders
Or what you want you will lose sight
Concentration is important
Even though it may not seem
If you wish to have what you want in life
You must Focus on the dream
Live it
Feel it
Be it
Or nothing you will have
For those without a dream in life
Wander down the path
Someday you will feel frightened
Lost and all alone
Close your eyes and search your soul
For something to pull you through
A memory
A dream
A promise of tomorrow
The fate He has in store for you
Must first be thought by You!
I hope this poem motivates you in the same way it does me. A copy is posted on my refrigerator and the other is at my bedside.
Sincerely,
Rebecca
