What's up with the Oscars?
2/11/2008 10:35:11 AM
I am disappointed that "Eastern Promises" was not nominated for Best Motion Picture of the Year and Best Director Oscars this year. As I said before, "A History of Violence" remains one of my favorite films due, of course, to the directing skills of David Cronenberg. His vision is unique and always refreshing. When my parents lived in the Hollywood Hills, they used to go to all kinds of Oscar parties, which is where I picked up this bad tendency to track the films that I personally enjoy. I always want to see good projects "make it." Eastern Promises had so many great twists and turns, gee that was a good film. Sigh.

On a different note, I tried a new style of writing on my stories page. I don't even know what to call it. I have been stuck in the house on top of windy hill for the past week due to this flu and am getting cabin fever BAD. I took the photo of the asters - they grow wild. If you click on the photo, it will go close up. I just loved the contrast between the dry grass and volcanic ash deposit that makes up our butte.

I think I will post more photos as time goes on. I would like to share them. When I was at USC architecture school, I had great fun taking and developing photographs. They taught us everything hands-on there, which was good. I almost defected over to the fine arts program - they always seemed to have more fun and weren't quite as "serious" as the architecture students. I still have my projects (drawings and models, thank you very much) that I somehow managed to complete while chasing boys.

Black and white, not color, is my favored photographic medium. It is very unforgiving, but man you can kick out some beautiful images when you get the formula right. So I run around with my Nikon and filters and try to capture some cool images. I'll post them for you all to see. I would really like to experiment more with mixed mediums. I thought it would be cool to take parts of photos, paste them to a watercolor block and paint designs around them.

Anyway, clearly I am going stir crazy here et il faut dejeuner. I think a vat of earl grey with a touch of milk and honey will be lovely right now.
