The Healing Process

We can never replace the animals we grow attached to. They have unique personalities and mannerisms one only sees once. But being an animal lover you can replace some of the loss. What is amazing is that we were able to find the same parents of our first cat. Someone up above must have known we would need a new kitten. The kitens were got were just eight weeks old.

The Healing Process
It was the day after we buried our dear cat Auggie in the big garden near the pole barn that I went out and picked up two kittens. I was awe struck. What were the olds that I would get not one but two kittens from the same parent cats as Auggie had? There was no mistaking the markings of the one kitten. He was a mirror image of his older brother. The other kitten was solid black with grey-blue eyes. When observed during play and during their curiosity hunts, it was plain to see many similar characteristics they both had that were special only to Auggie.
We have had them for two weeks now. I feel as if I just gave birth to twins. Every four hours around the clock I need to feed them. They let you know either by their high pitched squeals or they nimble on your fingers during the night until you wake up. Just as if preprogrammed, they call out to be fed in unison. I am dragging my feet these days and wonder how much longer I will be able to play the role of mother kitten.
Everyone thinks it’s neat that I have a black kitten, especially since Halloween it edging nearer. I thought of placing an orange coned hat on Marcus Aurelius, (black kitten), and attempting to take his picture before he discovered the hat or ran off. He doesn’t run away often. He’s a people kitty and loves to hang around us like shadows of the night. I think I might even whip up an orange cap for him to pose in along with the hat.
Maximus Decimus Meridius, we just call him Max for short, is a cuddlier. He is just as playful and mischievous as Marcus, but he loves to sit close to me or enjoys the broad shoulders of my husband. He has a laid back attitude where as Marcus seems like he is in training for ‘The Great Hunt’. Or is it he has to live up to his name, becoming a great gladiator!
Watching their activities is amusing and very soothing to ones soul. Growing larger as if by something magical we fed them, they continue to ease our pain and brighten our days.
