Young Lion, baby boomers
9/4/2005 4:57:07 AM
When I was young, we used to wish big, dream big, and as baby boomers we were taught nothing was really impossible. It was "the sky is the limit", "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country".
As I have gotten older I have had to have a reality check. While I have seen some amazing things that I am almost tempted to say surely will never be surpassed, I know they will.

In the face of all the accomplishments of my generation, there is the stark blank wall of my meager life. In my family I have members who have achieved college degrees and high 5 or 6 figure incomes. There are aspiring doctors, musicians, principals and teachers. While I admit,we regretfully had to shoot that one relative that wanted to be a lawyer, we do have our integrity to maintain, so I know you'll understand why we had to do that.

Meanwhile, back to me. As I was saying, the accomplishments I've had are miniscule at best. I know I am the object of "those" conversations where it's a total surprise if I made another month's rent and a source of relief for my Mom if I do.

What you may ask, is the reason for all the heartache (and amusement) I have caused for my family? Well it's not drugs or alcohol. It's not a wild crazy lifestyle. I'm not living on the edge. I not breaking the law, or a thug ‘wanna be’. Nope not at all. But if there is a choice of right, wrong or mishap, I fatefully have managed to choose mishap... consistently! Matter of fact, even NASA couldn't have been more accurate. If I say "left" you'd better go right. If I say "up" you'd better go down, and fast if you know what's good for you. I'm telling you I have a gift. I just don't know what it is! So as it turns out from time to time, I've had to call on my brother or my Mom to bail me out of my latest mishap, and that is unfortunately true on more than a few occasions.

I imagine one day my brother will crack under the pressure and just come to realize, he's gotta' do what he's gotta do and have me put down for my own sake.
