While all of us utilize book stores and websites to
increase our sales, there are overlooked venues to gain no-cost promotion...
Your local libraries-ask your local library to host an event for you. Also, look at the distance you are willing to travel for book promotion. Contact those libraries too. In the larger city you can looking their lecture series and add your name to their list. Often these 'big' city libraries will partner-up with local book stores so that books can be sold at the event.
Book Fairs and Festival-usually spring and fall events. The events are open to the public (gaining a wide audience attendance), but you have to go through a selection process to be on a panel or be a guest speaker.
Universities, colleges and community colleges frequently invite authors to give readings and talks. While this doesn't do much for increasing sales, it is a way to get you name out in the media, on campus, and the community at large.
Interviews-Get someone in the media: writer's magazine, local bi-monthly throw-a-way newspaper, book review magazine, radio or small independent television station to interview you. You are more interesting than you realize!
