thoughts about how to get your book noticed
How to get your book noticed if you aren't being pushed by a big PR firm? This is an author's nightmare, isn't it? Have you thought about buying adertisement space in magazines that are friendly to the type of genre or subject that you write?
I decided to invest in major advertising this time. I agreed to display at the BEA (don't know the results yet but, hey, it's only been a couple of weeks since it was over). I take part in Ingram's book magazin that goes out monthly to each bookseller/librarian/bookbuyer that uses that company as a distributor (and that's a LOT of people).
Then I started looking around to see where else o display my wares. Since my book is a cross between th Left Behind Series and the Davinci Code, began by perusing the esoteric section at the local Barnes and Nobles. I chose Atlantis Rising, a bi-monthly magazine that deals with all things esoteric, New Age,vaguely Conspiratorial, etc. they quickly sent me their rate card and I purchsed an ad in the August edition hopig to sell to their 30,000+ subscribers and readers.
I am a member of the ARE (some of you call it The Cayce Foundation) and intend to purchase ad spae in their mag. too. Romantic Times suggested I purchse ad space in their magazine when I sent in a proof copy for review. I also invested in 20 proof copies to send to various magazines and papers for review and to local bookstores for the order person to read. Failing an aazing response to l that, I have also begun selling on eBay. (when you do that, pick your key words carefully to get you the most space in the searches).
Lastly,cross your fingers, buy a rabbit's foot, pray to St. Jude (Patron St. of hopeless causes),get a 4 leaf clover, a horseshoe, and anything else you think will help out with luck and then put yourself in the hands of Fate.
