Oh, those neighbor kids! -- My Favorite Things, Part Four
4/28/2007 7:00:03 AM

A look at our lives has to include a look at the kids who were part of them

Shelley and Kissy and Greg the fish-stealer
Bunk beds to sleep in but just one 2-wheeler
Growing and laughing and looking ahead
Remember the bully Sue hit on the head?

Amy's closest friend was Shelley, who lived on Montgomery St. and had a couple sisters. They were in the same class at school and played together, but nothing big comes to mind.  Shelley was a nice companion for Amy.

Kissy was Cindy's kindergarten friend, who would walk to school with her.  I think they lived down on Willow St, down the block.  Kissy's Mom had a Polish accent, as Kissy does now as an adult.  Her real name was Mary Ann, but she said she kissed like the Kissy Doll that was popular when she was a toddler, so that became her nickname.  It's funny to see her working in the pharmacy now, and still going by the name Kissy.  Kissy is still pretty.  She and Cindy were great friends.

Little Greg was the youngest of 3 brothers who lived in the alley above us known as Carson St.  We were out somewhere one day, and when we came home, the floor was wet in front of the fishtank, and one of our goldfish was missing.  Found out later that Greg had come in the house, reached in the tank and caught a fish and stuck it in his pocket.  Greg was Billy's friend.
His brother Robby was in Carol's class when they went to kindergarten.  He was always getting out of his seat and going over to talk to Carol.  He was blonde and real cute.

Our kids had bunk beds.  It was a necessity, since the 4 girls shared 1 bedroom.  I can't remember who was where just now--I think they had different beds at different times, but one of them threw up from the top bunk, showering the one in the lower bunk.  I hesitate to ask them about it, because for the one on the bottom, it was a very unhappy experience!
It was also in the bottom bunk that the bat "got in bed" with Sue once.

Sue was strong and what we might call a little bit on the brazen side.  When Kenny, from up the street somewhere, was tormenting Cindy (older than Sue) and trying to take her bike, Sue got rid of him by hitting him on the head with her bookbag.

It looks like this is the next to last blog on my favorite things, and that's a shame because I love looking back to those dear memories of when I was a young Mom (and Bill of course a young Dad) with our five wonderful kids.  Now I got myself crying again..........
