Spring is on its way!

Yes, Home & Garden...that will fit
Another Sunday......the first day of Daylight Savings Time, to be exact.
No cooking today...I had the last servings of sauerkraut and pork from the fridge; Bill made himself a deer-bologna sandwich. He made the bologna earlier this week, and actually, he baked the bread last week and put some in the freezer, so his entire sandwich was homemade--by him. I think it's neat that he can do things like that.
The strawberries Bill ordered from Gurney's came on Friday, way too early to plant them in our cold Pennsylvania soil. I never thought he'd want to try growing strawberries again, but he fooled me once more.
At 70, Bill is quite a guy! When it snows, he is amazing, usually shoveling our 300+ foot driveway by hand. Even though coats are anathema to him, he will put on an old quilt-lined flannel shirt to keep the snow off his body, but then he complains about how hot he is. He never wears a coat or jacket to church--or anywhere else. There's always someone making remarks to him. The other week, I overheard Dorie tell Charmaine that Bill actually had a flannel shirt on! And there I am, bundled up in my big, warm coat while he's in short sleeves most of the time.
Tulips, crocuses and those other purplish clusters--you know the ones I mean--are poking up their heads from the cold ground. The bull-frogs came out of their underground beds on a signal from their leader (apparently) and started croaking 2 days ago. A little later, they'll be joined by tree-frogs peeping, then the all-out courting calls will begin, making it sound like a jungle 'round here. At first, it's hard to fall asleep with the racket going on out at the pond, but as it continues, I quickly get used to it and enjoy their squawking sounds, even when I wake during the night hearing it. (You could swear there are chickens and barking dogs out there!) If any grandchildren happen to be here during courting season, we take flashlights out to the little pond and count how many we see. The tree-frogs are hard to spot in the Rhododendrons around the pond, so it's a pleasure when we find them in the flashlight beam.
And the robins--wow, what a blessing every year about this time, when a large flock of red-breasted beauties congregate all over our lawn! We actually saw them a week earlier up at the crossroads, but that's not as thrilling as having them hopping around our place!
Seasons come and go, right on schedule. God planned it that way. He controls them, you know. There's a time for everything. I know this is the place for some words from the Bible, but I need to go now. Maybe you could search for them yourself. Let's see, you could go to an online Bible and put in the word "seasons" or "reap" and "sow" "springtime" and "harvest" They are there, and it's rewarding to hunt for them.
Until next time, remember
Spring is on its way! The time is drawing near.
Of all the four seasons, Spring is the most dear.
Flowers and butterflies, frogs and toads,
Buzzing bees with backpack-nectar loads;
Warming air, temperature that's just right.
Oh, how I love Spring days and Spring nights!
