CLAN OF THE WEEK:

The MAC DUFFS
As Cornelia, my grandmother whom I’m named after was a Fife, McDuff is my clan. Having written a novel, Danger Is Sweet, based on Kenneth MacAlpin and the Picts I was thrilled to find that Clan MacDuff was part of that history. The first official record of the Thanes of Fife was in the year 838 A.D, when Kenneth MacAlpin appointed his Governors for the Provinces, Fifus Duffus was appointed Governor of Fifeshire. Siol Alpine is a name given to a group of clans that claim descent from Kenneth MacAlpin. The MacDuffs are among the Siol Alpine along with the Grants, the MacAulays, the MacFies, the MacGregors, the MacKinnons, the MacNabs and the MacQuarries.

Harps & Haggis, Bagpipes & Fried Twinkies
by Cornelia Amiri

At the North Texas Irish Festival in Dallas Texas the weekend of March 4, 5, and 6, 2005, readers shared their delightful gift of gab, speaking to me as I signed my Celtic/Romance books. I have to agree the festival was the best ever. Renown as the largest Celtic festival in the Southwest US, an estimated 37,000 to 39,000 people attended over the three-day weekend.
