Ch-ch-changes...
5/23/2006 7:40:22 AM
Hello Gentle Readers!

I know it's been awhile since I've been here and I do apologize. The end of the school year, job changes, and the huge yearly dance recital for the kids has totally abducted me this last month.

Because my children are in a charter school connected with my job, I had to complete my volunteer hours in order for them to stay in the school. It's a great school and well worth the efforts of doing my yearly 40 hours of parent involvement. Really.

Because of extenuating circumstances that involved my job, a sick family member, and book deadlines, I didn't get my hours in before the last month.

So, I found myself scrambling to get in those remaining 20 odd hours I owed them. It was a challenge. I sold hot dogs at school functions, I came in extra early to work the before care lunchroom. I even spent 22 hours shelving books in the library. The shelves there are only 4 feet tall with the bottom shelf a mere two inches from the floor. My legs will never be the same, lol!

If you are intrigued about the sheer number and kind of books you children have to choose from, go to your local middle school library and spend a few days. You'll be surprised at the cool stuff you find there.

Anyway, all of this, plus taking on new challenges at work, have left me with very little time for writing and blogging. I love to do both, but time being what it is, my family much preferred dinner, clean clothes, and other various items that families expect. Selfish family.

But now I'm back! I have to say, there are some exciting things in the future.

I still have my proposals out. I even have a new one in the works. I announced a story blurb in my chat last night on the Mystic Castle website. It's as yet untitled. I will tell you it's pretty cool, about a very desperate heroine and the very devilish hero who has something she needs very badly...but for a very high price. (Insert devious grin here!)

Also, as I've said earlier, I'm concentrating on making some work changes. I'm not sure which direction it will go. I've basically put in for two different positions and I had the first interview yesterday for my preferred choice. I have to say it was a huge move for me and I have all my fingers and toes crossed on that one. It's a higher level position, and whether or not I get the opportunity all depends on many variables. Number one, if there's anyone more qualified for the job. I won't know until next week. Until then, that'll be me, sitting in the corner, chewing my fingernails to the nubs.

The second position is for basically the job I'm doing already. I just don't have the title or the income from it. Since I'm the most senior person with the most experience, well, you get the idea. I'm in charge by default.

As a rule, I don't do well with huge changes. I don't like them. They make me very uncomfortable, but it's well past time I made a move, made more money, and proved that I have the ability to do a higher level of job. Oh, and get paid for it.

As women, the general rule is that we tend to undervalue ourselves. That's a colossal shame. I have 25 years of experience in my field. I've worked at least a dozen different units and with tons of different people. I am a problem solver and a darn good one. It's time I was paid what I'm worth.

The same can be said for writers, too. Without us, there wouldn't be any publishing industry. I challenge you all who are writers, or would-be writers. Don't sell yourself short. You're worth the big bucks, too. At least it won't hurt to ask. Go on. You can do it.

Have a great week! Take care and happy reading! Pam.
