As this year is winding down, I thought to give account of the Blessings of God in my life that I hope many can relate to and appreciate. The past year was fraught with many challenges, trials and tribulations like most. However, when considering the big picture, the Lord has truly blessed my family, which I will be chronicling until the end of the year. It is my hope that in doing so, you will see within your own life that Jesus loves you and that the cup of your life is truly half full if you are working in accordance to his plan:
December 18th: I have a son, Eric, who has autism and has been a major challenge due to his temperament and how he processes information. At age 4, he spoke only about a dozen words and very rarely slept over 4-hours each night. It was very stressful for my wife and me, yet Eric has been an incredible blessing to our family. I thank God for my son with all my heart. Through him, I have learned to be more sensitive to those who are different and are hurting. I also learned to be patient and appreciative of the extraordinary gifts God has given my son. Today, at age 11, my son is very verbal, has great artistic talents, an incredible memory and unbelievable attention to detail. By nature of his autism, he is not capable of telling a lie. With Eric, what you see is what you get, albeit good or bad. Eric can be very matter of fact to the point of bluntness, with his expressive brown eyes and hearty laugh that his teachers have found to be very engaging. Knowing that the future may be uncertain for Eric with challenges as he transitions from school to the real-world, I was motivated to establish a business that would provide for him as an adult with autism. The business will provide financial security for him, as well as his older brother.
On July 5th of 2005, my wife and I established “Trinity Express Lube”, which is a Christian owned, Quick Lube operation located in Winchester, Virginia. At Trinity, we have created a basic automotive service company based on Christian values with an objective to give back to the community. In one year, we processed over 15,000 automobiles and gave away over 3,000 audio CDs, Bibles, and other materials on a number of Christian topics. Due to God’s blessing, we were also able to give to a number of local needy causes in excess of $20,000. We are presently closing this year with the purchase of another commercial property in Charles Town, West Virginia to open our second operation by next summer. All this came into fruition from our (my wife and I) desire and motivation to secure the future of our special needs son.
Where was God in this? The Lord taught us patience. The Lord put a parental desire within our hearts to provide for our kids by creating a business for their future. Yet, the Lord used that opportunity to touch thousands for the Kingdom of God. In time, the Lord inspired me to write the book, “In God We Betrayed” in an effort to put God front and center within our nation again. To those who know me, this was way out of my comfort zone. The good Lord also showed us that He is the best maker of lemonade from lemons that this world will ever know. The journey has not been easy and we still have our daily struggles, but we are grateful to know that the Lord is in charge of our lives. And finally, the Lord has opened my eyes and heart to see His divine providence and wisdom. All He asks of us is to keep Him in our sight and for us to trust Him in his infinite Love. Yes indeed, the glass is more than half full.
