Hotel and Clock
12/21/2006 7:07:46 AM    [ Flag as Inappropriate ]

Such a silly poem.

It all started when I snagged a pic of a Best Western logo. I am a Paint Shop Pro addict (PSP 8.1), and I like to use photos as backgrounds for my poems. So, first I enlarged the BW pic to 300x270 pixels (originally 87x72), giving me some room to work and somewhat distorting the pic. Then, using the "embossing" tool, I made the BW logo look like a grey embossed image. Over this, I laid on a rastor layer set at Opacity=30 and filled it with a green swatch with yellow highlights. This gave me an embossed BW image, slightly colorized to green, and with random yellow blazes. Pretty. Then I framed it. Next I laid on another rastor layer set at Opacity=20. Finally, using the Tubes tool, I put in a gothic-looking clock which sits like a transparent ghost on top of the right side of the total image. Looks a little bit spooky. Thus was created a good background image which (1) will make Best Western very irate if they ever see it, and (2) will provide a neat background for many types of future poems. Only a PSP fanatic would understand any of the above.

That said, of course it became necessary to write a poem to test the background. Since the background was a hotel chain logo and a clock, the poem's title was a given. Once we have a title, the poem must follow ...

Hotel and Clock
by Ted L  Glines

If  I had a hotel
tell you what Id do,
Id put flowers in  the party  suite
and give the key to you,
roses and Jacuzzi  too
for no one else  but you.
Just you,
no one else will  do.

If I had a ticking clock
tell you what Id  do,
Id stop its hands from  moving
with about a pint of  glue
just to spend more time with  you,
spending all my time  with you.
Just you,
no one else will  do.

Now, isn't that silly!
