The pressure
6/18/2008 4:22:05 PM

I really am trying to get organized, and keep up with the daily chores as well as push my writing forward.

I was wondering the other day about the pressure writers put themselves under. I am a writer, yes, but does that mean I should be able to write anything? Novels, short stories, articles, travel articles, brochures … am I supposed to be able to write it all in order to truly be a writer?

I have finally come to realize that there are some parts of writing that I am more suited to: novels, articles on issues that interest me, and new age/spiritual development articles. I consider these to be the areas I am best at.

At heart I am a novelist (an aspiring one), and that is where I am most at home, most aware of the entire process, most in touch with every part of the writing.

I struggle a bit at articles, unless it is something I am fascinated with. I don’t know how freelance writers manage to come up with article after article after article. I take my hat off to them.

Anyway, it just made me wonder about the pressure writers put themselves under to be able to write anything.
