PDA obsession
5/18/2004 7:31:14 PM
I have realised that I have a tendency to be a compulsive obsessive person! When I was looking for a mobile phone I became obsessed about them and spent way too much time researching phone and comparing them (though I do now have a really sexy little Samsung A800 which I bought second hand).

Now I find myself doing the same with PDAs! I recently bought one for my high school aged son. It's a second hand one, a Sony Clie sj20. Though the screen is black and white the clarity is brilliant, and I find the common words going through my mind are "I want one too!"

Do I need a PDA? Well, I guess my hardcover diary does the job adequately enough, but.... you can imagine all the excuses I can come up with.

This has all left me wondering whether we get too carried away about small techno devices?

I would use a PDA for publishers details, diary, notes taking, contact details for friends and family, but primarily I would love it as a way to record those brilliant ideas, in a neat format, wherever I am. Imagine being by the beach and feeling a poem flow through you, and being able to record it and store it, never to be lost in the bottom of your bag or accidently thrown out. There you see: excuses.

Do we get too carried away on things that we think will make our job as writers easier...or are we merely constant 'time planners' seeking ways to make the best of the time that we have and even our free time?
