A distorted view of the human race 3/3/2007 5:24:26 AM One of the people living in my head is the cynic who believes the world should be one way but see's it quite differently. He says to me this morning, "You know, old timer, there are two kinds of people in the world...me and everybody else." The rational person who shares that tiny world with him said, "Now wait just a cotton picking minute. There are some good people who try to do their best so explain to me what your demented self is talking about."
"It's this way sport, when I grew up we were taught to respect our elders, treat women with respect, display proper manners and try to be honest. I don't see much of that anymore. Old people languish in homes frequently forgotten. Ever since Women's Lib, men either don't open doors for the ladies or are chastised if they do. Rudeness seems to be the driving force in most people. And lies, there is common as fast food restaurants. It's downright depressing."
"You may have a certain point but don't you see the times when people come to the aid of the neighbors. Just look at the terrible damage with the recent tornados and how people are helping each other. And have you noticed when you do hold a door open for a woman, some even say thank you. Granted the world may not be what it was but you can't keep looking at it with blinders on."
"OK, so maybe, just maybe, there are some nice folks I don't pay attention to. I just wish I could see more of them."
"So do I my cynical friend."
