Faith In Action 4/21/2009 9:21:16 PM I have had the pleasure to receive an e-mail from FIA who shows great enthusiasim in providing information about this amazing organization. Faith is an necessary part of our being and must be respected and included in our lives. Faith In Action goes beyond the call of duty. It goes to the streets. I was overwhelmed by the by the willinness of FIA to contribute to my next book, 'City of Gardens: The Invisible Society'. This organization is a force not to be underestimated. They have worked literally miracles within the community when dealing with mental illness, addiction and homelessness.
Most important of all, they keep the spirit alive. This could range from working with childrens choirs, feeding the hungry or helping those in poverty.
People need a sense of being and a reason to live. We need hope and love. The faith community does all of this. It is a sense of community and friendship. Faith releases compassion for our neighbours. It teaches us to forgive and not to judge others. That position has already been taken.
I take great honour in having Faith In Action contribute to the book. We will learn a great deal about this organization, its goals and vision for the future. They will enlighten us on their successes and future challenges.
The FIA portion of the book may very well be the most important and fulfilling section of this whole project. I know, it has already given me hope and strength to continue.
There is a great healing power of faith. That is something that faded away in my life. I lost sight of hope, faith and love. Today's e-mail helped restore some of these losses in my life rekindling my damaged spirit.
If an e-mail can do that for me, imagine the power of a service and its teachings. Then we look at the power they wield when giving a helping hand to those in need.
FIA is in partnership with the Greater Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness Society. This partnership may very well be the strength needed to house and support 1,550 homeless people in five years.
My spirit has been broken a very long time ago back in the days of my childhood. Today was the day that I felt my heart warm. It helped calm my anger, restore my faith and for the firt time in a long time it gave me hope.
If an e-mail can do this to me, what kind of a impact will it have on the streets and darkened alleys of Victoria? This is a force to reckon with. Until today, I thought I was alone and that was not true. There was a reason why I only saw one set of footprints in the sand.
The Greater Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness Society should be forever gratefull that FIA is on their side, I know I am.
