Brainless but well booted
1/23/2004 5:24:16 PM    [ Flag as Inappropriate ]

Writing my blog is usually an activity I reserve for bouts of insomnia.
Well, as usual the insomnia has been caused by my slippers. No, that's a little misleading. I have two dogs - large ones, who have a habit or sleeping on my feet - one on each so I look like I'm wearing gigantic slippers. They are very warm, and at six and four stone respectively [that's 84 and 56 pounds] they don't exactly encourage me to move my feet around too much. That's good because I suffer from that restless legs thing, which is very irritating. My legs just want to dance and kick around when the rest of me wants to be still.

Anyway, they were barking again tonight [the dogs, not the legs] and it was a choice between coming downstairs and calming them, or having the neighbours hammering on my doors complaining. So here I am. I've just sent Peter a birthday card and I'm toying with the idea of writing a bit more of my current fiction story. Then again I could just play a gentle game of solitaire and go back to bed now that the slippers seem to have settled down. It's usually movement or noise outside that disturbs them, so I may leave the light on and switch on the washing machine, which I just filled ready. Hopefully it will distract their ears without disturbing the neighbours.

The story is an addition to my book The Waldorf Street Paradox. When I saw my publisher a few weeks ago he invited me to add in a few more stories and so I sent one last week and am working on this new one inspired by my visit to the hospital last week where they put me into one of those huge MRI scanners to see if they could find my brain. I wonder if they did - they promise to notify me in due course if anything shows up on the scans.
