You Meet Poets in the Strangest Places

The other day I was having coffee with a friend and we started chatting up various poets we've admired and influenced our writing style and perspective. I'll call my friend Jeanne, mostly because that is her name. She's quite bright to.
Jeanne told me she had an old book at home that perhaps I'd like to read, and of course I agreed. The next day she said, "Hey, I have the book I told you about, do you still want to read it?" "Of course" I replied and with that she pulled out of her overstuffed bag a thin book, well worn in the binding, almost to the point I was afraid to touch it.
I opened the book to the title page and it said "Verse" by Adelaide Crapsey. Published in 1915, just a year after Miss Crapsey had died from Tuberculosis.
After we parted company I returned home and read the entire book in less than an hour, but it was one of the most enjoyable reads I'd experienced in a long time.
107 pages of short rhyming stories, a section on cinaquins and a host of other pages that made me want to read more. I don't know if this book has any monetary value, but it had volumes of wealth in store for me...and the pleasure of being introduced to another great American writer, and the funny thing is, you just never know where you'll meet a great poet.
Below is one poem that comes from her book verse, printed in 1915.
Niagara
Seen on a night in November
How frail
Above the bulk
Of crashing water hangs,
Autumn, evanescent, wan,
The moon.
